Immediately from the Villa Martin front gate there is a 2.1/2 hour mountain walk. You can also walk down hill to the charming C12th village church by the river. St. Martin Des Puits is about 45 minutes from the Mediterranean coast and the main road to Barcelona and Spain. The attractive village of Rennes les Bains, with its famous thermal spas, is also only about a 45 minute drive away. This area (Rennes-le-Chateau etc.) has strong associations with the Da Vinci Code.  

You are staying in Cathar country with contrasting landscapes and many places of interest and the area is dotted with ancient remains. It is ideally situated for simply relaxing as well as most leisure activities. 

La Cité of Carcassonne is of course an absolute must and it is worth allocating a whole day to see. The tourist board for the Languedoc - Roussillon region are very active and helpful and are well worth visiting for a heap of leaflets! You will have a great deal to see, should you wish to explore this interesting region.
